About John Lars Shoberg
John Lars Shoberg always wanted to be a scientist, and has two Master of Science degrees. But he also had a creative side, and took a class on creative writing while in college as well. For several decades, he worked in chemical labs, while practicing his writing skills in the evenings.
John writes science fiction, and believes it needs some science involved. He uses his training to refine his research for his books, from learning archeology methodology for his first book, The Stone Builders, to devising shore excursions for a star cruise for his second book, Time Off, and other research for his more recent books, The Waste Gun and De-Evolution.

How long have you been writing?
Off and on since college, where I took a course in writing fiction. I've been writing in earnest since I retired.
What made you start writing?
I wanted to tell stories like those I read in SF magazines.
Describe your office or workspace
It has a fannish decor.
How do you choose your character's names?
I get names from naming lists or the internet.
What is your daily schedule like?
I write before lunch. Afterwards, I make SF props, read and watch TV.
What type of writer are you?
I have a basic idea of where I want to go, but the characters often lead me elsewhere.
What one thing do you most like about writing?
Creating better worlds.
What is your advice for other writers?
Write. Practice the craft.
