Trudy has been writing since at least the 4th grade. She sold her first 2 stories in 2015, one to an anthology and the other to a small press. Her second book was put out by that same small press.
Although she tried several times to make her way through college, life kept intruding, and she hasn't made it yet. At her last attempt, her major was mathematics and her minor was physics (which is just another name for more math!). She also spent a number of years working in the city library system, where she learned how to research a wide range of topics.
When Trudy finally retired from her day job in 2010, she soon discovered that her knowledge of science was too old to let her effectively write science fiction, so she opted to write fantasy while she self-studied the state of modern science. She is still studying science—it changes so quickly!—but she is beginning to delve into writing sf, as well as other genres.
Trudy writes fantasy using her real name, Trudy V. Myers, but she uses various pen names for other genres. For instance, Linda (NMI) Joy is the pen name she uses for romance.

Since at least the 4th grade, if not earlier. That was a few decades ago.
Books and stories in general had fascinated me since I was a toddler. I wanted more stories like Robin Hood and the Space Cadets, but our small libraries didn't have any. So I started writing my own.
I have taken over an entire bedroom as my office. It is messy. There are books in a couple places, magazines in a couple others, notebooks and papers all over the place. I have a lot of hobbies, and a lot of commitments, and I just never seem to get around to cleaning my office.
I have a lot of different methods. I have a baby name book on my shelf. I am compiling my own list of unusual names. If I want a name from a particular region of the world, I will research on the internet. Sometimes I just throw some letters together. For my first novel, "Cali", I started writing before I came up with a name for the male lead, so I called him 'Sidekick', to be replaced later with his real name. Then I started shortening it to 'Sidek', and before I knew it, 'Sidek' was his name.
I start the day taking care of myself and doing some household projects, like pay bills, if it's that time. After lunch, I concentrate on business chores, such as editing and publishing. At supper time, we spend 3-4 hours watching TV and after that, I write until midnight.
I am a pantser. I have tried working from an outline, but it was never very long before the story was way off the path and couldn't find its way back. These days, I have some characters and a situation, and I'm fairly certain where they will be at the end of the story. But it isn't long before the characters take over what path they follow as they tell me the story.
Making up stories. It is, after all, why I started writing in the first place.
Try to be patient. It takes time to learn the craft. And I often tell them to get a copy of Strunk and White's "Elements of Style". It will help you with punctuation and grammar. But keep in mind that it is intended for formal, non-fiction writing, so you can be a little flexible when you are writing fiction.
I have been called a rabid feminist. You may pick up on that in some of my writing. But it really means I expect to hold the door open 50% of the time.
